Drugs and Wanted Suspect located during Welfare Check after Man Kicks K-9 in Head & Attempts to Disarm an Officer

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Jake Miller along with Sheriff's detectives and deputies arrested two individuals on Monday morning April 19, 2021 at approximately 8:46 AM.

The arrests occurred off Tuttle Road, approximately 9 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched to a residence there to conduct a welfare check on a female subject.

As deputies arrived at the scene, they observed a male subject flee on foot running across the roadway into a field. K-9 Deputy Jake Miller deployed his K-9 “Maverick” who was able to chase, and detain the suspect temporarily as deputies made contact with the suspect who then kicked K-9 “Maverick” in the head.

The suspect struggled with deputies there attempting to disarm one Deputy and following a brief struggle the suspect was taken into custody.

During the arrest the suspect was found in possession of a syringe.

Further investigation was conducted by Sheriff's detectives and deputies at the residence where they located suspected Methamphetamine and syringes.

In addition, deputies located a female subject there hiding in a locked room and determined that she was wanted on outstanding warrants of arrest.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

Steve Wagers age 38 of Tuttle Rd., London, KY charged with:

  • Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Resisting arrest
  • Attempting to disarm a peace officer
  • Disorderly conduct – second-degre
  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Menacing
  • Assault on a service animal – second-degree

Tiffany N. Hoskins age 29 of Tuttle Rd., London, KY charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

In addition, this subject was charged on three outstanding warrants including:

  • A Laurel District Court warrant of arrest obtained by Laurel Sheriff's Detective James Sizemore charging two counts of Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • A Knox District Court warrant of arrest regarding failure to appear on charges of Abused or Neglected child
  • A Knox District Court warrant of arrest obtained by trooper Michael Wilson charging Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot; Wanton endangerment – first-degree

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
