May, 2021 Programs for Clay County, Kentucky from the Cooperative Extension Service

MANCHESTER, KY (May 1, 2021) - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for May, 2021.

  • Sensational Salad will be May 5th at 1:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office and via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Join us and learn about the different salad greens and the benefits of including a salad in your diet. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be sampling any food. You must wear a mask and maintain a 6 ft. distance. FREE & open to the public. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register. 
  • 4-H Grab & Go Bag: Exploring Your Stream

Sign-up for this great opportunity to explore a stream and critters near your home! The bag will contain activities related to learning about if your stream is healthy by exploring the type of critters you might find in the creek! FREE & open to all youth age 5-18. You must call to register by May 5th at 598-2789. Kits will be available for pick-up May 10-14th at the Clay County Extension Office.

  • Plate It Up will be on May 13th at 1:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office & via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Join us as we prepare a Plate It Up recipe using vegetables or fruits that can be grown in Kentucky gardens. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be sampling food. You must wear a mask and maintain a 6 ft. distance. FREE & open to the public. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register.
  • 4-H Rabbit Club

Interested in learning about rabbits? If so, this is the club for you! This club is FREE & open to youth ages 8-18 and will be held Thursday, May 13th at the Clay County Extension Office at 4:00 pm. Youth will have the opportunity to learn about the different breeds of rabbits, proper care, handling, health & nutrition and much more! To register, you must call by May 10th at 598-2789. Participants are required to maintain a 6-foot distance and wear a mask.

  • Plants:  Spring Fever will be on May 14th at 1:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office and via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Lora will be demonstrating how she plants in a container. Due to Covid restrictions, you must wear a mask and maintain a 6 ft. distance. FREE & open to the public. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register.
  • 4-H Crafty Artist Kits: Red, White & Blue Stained Glass Window Art

With Memorial Day approaching, youth will create a patriotic “stained glass” window decoration in the colors of the American flag. You must call to register by May 12th at 598-2789. FREE & available to all youth ages 8-18. Kits will be available May 17-21st at the Clay County Extension Office.

  • Grow It, Eat It will be on May 18th at 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. This is a child + parent program that will be conducted outdoors. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to grow their own veggie plant & watch a food demonstration! Limited spots are available. FREE & open to all youth ages 6-10. You must call 598-2789 by May 11th to register.
  • 4-H Virtual Chefs in Training

The recipe of the month of May is Oatmeal Muffins. Kits will be available for pick-up May 17-19th. We will meet virtually on May 20th at 3:30! To sign-up, you must provide your email to be invited to the Zoom Meeting. You must sign-up by May 13th. We will be discussing State Fair recipes!
