Driver with Meth, Heroin, Cocaine, Xanax and an Alleged Halfway House Escapee Arrested at a Business off I–75

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Justin Taylor along with Deputy Landry Collett and Deputy Tommy Houston arrested two individuals early Friday morning May 21, 2021 at approximately 1:00 AM.

The arrests occurred at a business off I–75 approximately 9 miles north of London following a traffic stop conducted on a black Nissan Murano.

During the traffic stop and investigation of the two occupants, the driver refused to provide his identification and stated he had no driver’s license.

As the investigation continued the driver fled on foot and following a foot chase and scuffle with deputies was taken into custody.

Deputies found the driver in possession of:

  • Suspected Methamphetamine,
  • Suspected Heroin
  • Suspected Cocaine
  • Xanax

In addition, the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The passenger was determined to be wanted on a probation violation warrant.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

Liford Benjamin 175

Benjamin Carson Liford age 35 of South Main St., Corbin charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first offense – Heroin
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Cocaine
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – third-degree – second offense
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia

In addition, this individual was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – fourth offense
  • Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot
  • Giving officer false identifying information

This individual was also charged on a Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:

  • Failure to appear for arraignment regarding charges of Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Heroin
  • Contempt of court

Also, this individual was charged on a Laurel Circuit Court bench warrant of arrest charging:

  • Probation violation regarding charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence – fourth offense
  • Persistent felony offender I

Liza Godfrey 175

Liza Denise Godfrey age 28 of Perry Ln., London, charged on a parole violation warrant regarding charges of:

  • Possession of a Controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Receiving stolen property

This subject allegedly escaped from a Kentucky halfway house in Owensboro, KY.

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
