Two Corbin, Kentucky Men Charged with Methamphetamine Trafficking by Sheriff's Investigators Conducting a Welfare Check Regarding Children

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler along with Lieut. Chris Edwards arrested two individuals on Tuesday evening June 15, 2021 at approximately 6:03 PM.

The arrests occurred at a residence off US 25 approximately 6 miles South of London while Sheriff's investigators were conducting a welfare check regarding juvenile children possibly allegedly being exposed to drug trafficking where a gun was pulled.

Upon arrival at the scene, Sheriff's officials observed a Hummer vehicle and upon announcing Sheriff's Office, a subject outside the vehicle retrieved an item from an occupant in the vehicle and fled on foot into a residence closing the door and fleeing into the basement area where Sheriff's investigators found the subject hiding there.

The subject refused to follow commands given by deputies and following a brief struggle with deputies was taken into custody. 

This subject was identified as Dillion Asher. This individual was found in possession of:

  • Suspected Methamphetamine
  • Digital scales
  • Plastic baggies
  • Scissors

Deputies then focused their attention on the Hummer vehicle outside observing a glass Meth pipe in plain view.

Sgt. Mehler deployed his K-9 “Edge” (right) who alerted on the vehicle.

Deputies found additional paraphernalia with meth residue and paraphernalia with a brown substance in it.

The male occupant in the vehicle was identified as John James Asher.

Arrested was:

Dillion Asher age 40 of old Highway 25, Corbin charged with:

  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
  • Resisting arrest; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Tampering with Physical evidence
  • Public intoxication – Controlled substances
  • Menacing

In addition this subject was wanted on an outstanding Knox County Circuit Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of:

  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine

John James Asher age 69 of South US Highway 25, Corbin charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
