Upcoming Programs in October for Clay County, Kentucky from the Cooperative Extension Service

MANCHESTER, KY (September 30, 2021) - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for October, 2021.

4-H Piggy Bank Grab Bags - Families will receive a Berenstain Bears’ book, Piggy Bank Contest information, small piggy bank and other goodies related to financial management. Bags will be available for pick-up October 4th-8th at the Clay County Extension Office. You must call 598-2789 to reserve your bag. These bags are free and will be available to families and youth ages: Kindergarten-12th grade.

4-H Teen Club will meet virtually on October 7th at 5 pm. This club is free and open to middle and high school students. Leadership, community service opportunities, games and much more will take place! Remember to invite a friend! You must call and register at 598-2789.

4-H Fall Cooking Kits will be available October 11-15th for pick-up at the Clay County Extension Office for youth ages 5-18. Youth will receive some ingredients to make pumpkin dip for the fall season! The recipe can be used for a Halloween party or a fun snack at home!  You must call 598-2789 to register to reserve your kit.

4-H Art Club will meet October 14th at 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. Free and open to youth ages 8-18. Come and learn a new skill by repurposing a pumpkin. Projects can be used for a gift, for the home or entered for the 4-H Project Showcase. You must call 598-2789 to register by October 11th

2021 Beef Bash will be October 14th in Woodford County. For more information, please contact Les Anderson at 859-257-2856 or .

Maple Syrup Toolbox will be on October 14th at 7-8:30 pm Eastern, online via ZOOM. Topics include: the next steps in maple syrup production, selecting your sugarbush, collecting maple sap, tubing, vacuum, and reverse osmosis, marketing maple syrup and sources of maple syrup assistance. 4-H Project GO - each month will focus on a new topic. For October, we will focus on Expressive Arts. Bags will be available for pick-up October 18th-22nd at Clay County Extension Office. Bags are free and will be available to youth ages 5-18. You must call the office to register at 598-2789.

Kentucky Beef Conference will be on October 18th at 7 pm via ZOOM Webinar. Register at https://forms.gle/MqDQSR8DoKFLXBpa9. Once registration is complete, you will be emailed the ZOOM link. Contact the Clay County Extension Office at 598-2789 for more information.

4-H Rabbit Club meeting will be Thursday, October 21st at 4pm at Clay County Extension Office. If you are interested in learning more about rabbits, this is the club for you! You do not have to own a rabbit to join! Free and open to all youth ages 8-18. Please call to register by October 18th.

Kentucky Maple School – November 6th from 10 am – 3:30 pm at the Letcher County Extension Office. Join us as we tap into Kentucky’s untapped resource. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Abby Van Den Berg, University of Vermont. Topics will include: Maple Tapping Research, Support for Maple Syrup Producers, Kentucky Maple Syrup Association Meeting and Maple Vendor Exhibits, and door prizes.
