Baby located alone in Vehicle at a Business off Kentucky Route 490 during Investigation of Out-of-Control Subject Complaint

LONDON, KY (January 5, 2022) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Dylan Messer arrested Charles William Chamberlain, Jr age 28 of Chapel Road, East Bernstadt on Tuesday afternoon January 4, 2022 at approximately 4:13 PM.

The arrest occurred at a business off Highway 490 approximately 4 miles north of London after deputies were dispatched to an out-of-control subject there. Reportedly the subject was dancing and yelling and creating a disturbance.

Upon arrival at the scene Deputy Messer located the suspect inside the business and conducted an investigation determining that he was under the influence.

Upon arrest the suspect informed Deputy Messer that his one-year-old daughter was in the vehicle outside.

Deputy Messer located the one-year-old juvenile female alone in the back of the vehicle strapped in a car seat and noted that the vehicle's engine was running and keys were left inside the vehicle.

Deputies learned through investigation that the baby had been left outside for over an hour.

Charles William Chamberlain, Jr was charged with:

  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Endangering the welfare of a minor

Social services was notified to assist with placing the baby.

The suspect was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
