Kentucky State Police Investigate Pedestrian-Involved Collision on Interstate 75 in Laurel County

LONDON, KY (October 14, 2022) – The Kentucky State Police is reporting that on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at approximately 10:41 P.M., KSP Post 11, London received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian around the 34 mile marker in the southbound lanes of Interstate-75 in Laurel County.

Upon arrival, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Sergeant Michael Hamblin determined that a 2016 Freightliner Commercial Vehicle being operated by Luis Gurdarrama-Fernandez, 49, of Illinois was traveling southbound when he struck a pedestrian Billi J. Mcvay, 22, of Corbin who was on the roadway.

Mcvay was airlifted from the scene and flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.

Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Sergeant Hamblin is continuing the investigation.

He was assisted at the scene by members of the Laurel County Rescue Squad, Laurel County Sheriff’s Office and the Laurel County Fire Department.
