Suspects Arrested Following Multi-Agency Investigation of Shootings During Armored Car Robberies in Los Angeles County, California

Los Angeles County, CA (October 23, 2022) - The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department Information Bureau (SIB) is reporting that during October of 2022, detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Major Crimes Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the Gardena Police Department learned of three violent armored car robberies that shared the same modus operandi.

The suspects brazenly, without warning shot several armored car drivers prior to robbing them. Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and positively identified Lamond Akins and Gregory James as their suspects in the robberies.

On October 21, 2022, at approximately 5:00 AM, after obtaining Federal and State warrants for the arrest of Suspect Akins and James, and a search of their residences, LASD Special Enforcement Bureau (Special Weapons Team), detained Suspect Akins in the 1600 block of W. 121st Street, Los Angeles, and Suspect James in a motel on 17200 block of Downey Avenue in Bellflower.

Numerous pieces of evidence were recovered at both locations. Suspect’s Akins and James were arrested and transported to the Federal Detention Center in Los Angeles, where they were booked on Robbery and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm charges.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if these suspects are related to other armored car robberies that have recently occurred in the Southern California Area.
