K-9 Locates Weapon after Arrest of Man Accused of Murder in Shooting Death of His Brother in Laurel County, KY

LONDON, KY (ClayCoNews) - Laurel Sheriff John Root is reporting that as the Grant Smith murder investigation is continuing, shortly after midnight Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Brian France and his K-9 “Maverick” located the murder weapon apparently used by the accused Bailey Smith near the Pittsburg Cemetery approximately one mile North of London.

Also assisting at the scene were Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Skylar McFarland and the case officer Detective Taylor McDaniel

Sheriff John Root had reported earlier that Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Skylar McFarland along with Deputy Byron Grimes and K-9 Deputy Brian France with assistance from the Kentucky State Police and the London City Police arrested murder suspect Bailey Smith age 56 of East Bernstadt without incident.

The arrest occurred after information was developed on his whereabouts at a business off U.S. 25 approximately 1/2 mile North of London on Saturday night December 3rd, 2022 at approximately 10:30 PM. charging him on a murder warrant obtained by Sheriff's investigators regarding the shooting death of his brother Grant Smith Age 59 of London.

Bailey Smith was charged with:

  • MURDER
  • ASSAULT, 4TH DEGREE (MINOR INJURY)

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center where he's being held on a $500,000.00 Cash Bond.
