Knox County Deputies Respond to Complaint Scene on KY 3439 Involving a Male Threatening to Shoot Two (2) People

BARBOURVILLE, KY - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 3:30 A.M., Knox County Deputies Jesse Smith and Lt. Sam Mullins responded to a disturbance complaint at a residence on KY 3439 involving a male with a rifle threatening to shoot another male and a female.

After arriving at the residence, the deputies learned that the male and female victims had been forced out of the residence at gunpoint by Rodney Hampton and that he had barricaded himself inside the residence.

According to the Sheriff's Department, after approximately 30 minutes of negotiations, the suspect, Rodney Hampton came out of the residence unarmed and surrendered peaceably.

Rodney Hampton age 26 of Cannon, KY was arrested and transported to the Knox County Detention Center.

Rodney Hampton was charged with:

  • Seven (7) counts of Wanton Endangerment -1st Degree/Police Officer
  • Two (2) counts of Wanton Endangerment -1st Degree
  • Two (2) counts of Terroristic Threatening - 2nd Degree
  • Menacing

This individual was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
