IVEL, KY - (March 8, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting that KSP Post 9, Pikeville was notified by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office of a fatal collision on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 8:10 P.M. The collision had occurred on U.S. 23 in the Ivel community of Floyd County. Troopers from Post 9 responded and began the investigation.
The initial investigation indicated Nathan Egler, 26 years old of Evansville, IN, was operating a 2014 Toyota RAV4 on U.S. 23, when James Boyd, 65 years old of Garrett, walked into the path of the vehicle and was struck by the vehicle.
Mr. Boyd was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Detective Joshua Scott.
Detective Scott was assisted by Kentucky State Police Post 9 personnel, Allen Volunteer Fire Department, and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
