FATAL COLLISION ON U.S. 62 IN CARLISLE COUNTY, KENTUCKY

CUNNINGHAM, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting that KSP Post 1 is investigating a Sunday afternoon collision that has claimed the life of a young child. Carlisle County Dispatch was notified just before 11:20 A.M. CT on June 21, 2023 of a two-vehicle collision on US-62 near the intersection of KY-307 in Carlisle County.

A trooper in the area responded to the scene with Carlisle County deputies. At the request of Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office, the KSP collision reconstruction team responded to the scene and KSP began the collision investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Lucas E. Shehorn, 35 years old of Bardwell, KY, was operating a 2020 Nissan Rouge eastbound on US-62 with a 4 year-old passenger.

Michelle Chapman, 55 years old of Paducah, KY, was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on US-62. For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided on US-62 near the intersection of KY-307.

The juvenile passenger of Shehorn’s vehicle was transported by ground to an area hospital and then by air to an out of state hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Lucas Shehorn was also transported by air to an out of state hospital for injuries sustained during the collision. Michelle Chapman was transported by ground to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Due to the severity of damage resulting from the collision, it is still under investigation if restraints were utilized properly.

The investigation remains ongoing by Trooper Hamby.
