LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Noah Ritchie arrested William H. Smedema age 35 of Chattanooga, Tennessee on Saturday morning September 23, 2023 at approximately 11:55 AM.
The arrest occurred at a motel in southern Laurel County after Deputy Ritchie was dispatched to a complaint there.
Upon arrival at the scene Deputy Richie attempted to make contact with a male subject there while conducting a welfare check.
Deputy Ritchie noted detecting a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from the subject and learned from the motel that this individual had allegedly not paid this bill and the hotel was asking him to leave, however he refused.
Deputy Ritchie noted that the individual gave false identifying information and began cursing and creating a disturbance there.
This individual struggled briefly with Deputy Ritchie before being placed in the patrol vehicle.
William Smedema was charged with:
- Alcohol intoxication in a public place
- Disorderly conduct – second-degree
- Giving officer false identifying information
- Resisting arrest
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
