LONDON, KY - LPD Chief Chuck Johnson, LSO Sheriff John Root, and Chief Dan Smoot of the Laurel County Schools Police Force announced that on Thursday, October12, 2023, the London Police Department, Laurel County Sheriff's Office, and Laurel County School Police conducted an active school shooter training situation at North Laurel High and Hunter Hills Elementary Schools.
It might be fall break for the students in Laurel County, but not for the London Police Department, Laurel County Sheriff's Office, or Laurel County School Police.
All agencies came together Thursday and trained as a team conducting school active shooter training.
The collaborative active shooter training conducted by these agencies exemplifies a proactive approach to ensuring the safety and security of educational environments. This training will help prepare first responders and school personnel with both tactics and opportunities for planning and response in the event of a real emergency.
As a part of the training, a round table discussion was held with agency heads and command staff from all departments. This training was coordinated by London Police Assistant Chief Bobby Day and Laurel County Sheriff's Office Captain Richard Dalrymple.
London Police Chief Chuck Johnson believes that the safety of our children while they are in school is a top priority and is an advocate for implementing comprehensive measures to protect the kids in school from potential threats particularly by prioritizing early intervention and preparedness in the face of the growing concern surrounding active shooter incidents.
