On Duty Post Falls, Idaho Police Officer Dies Serving Community

POST FALLS, ID - Post Falls Police Chief Greg McLean reported in a Monday press release that: On Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 4:40 PM, after completing a call for service, Officer Nicholas McDaniel failed to respond to a status check from the Communications Center.

Officers were dispatched to Officer McDaniel's last known location, where they found him slumped over the wheel of his police vehicle.

The officers on scene immediately started CPR until Kootenai County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and transported Officer McDaniel to the Kootenai Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The death of Officer Nicholas McDaniel has been determined to be a massive heart attack.

Officer Nicholas McDaniel was 36 years-old and had worked for the Post Falls Police Department for a little under a year, with 13 years served previously in Hawaii.

I would like to thank all the surrounding law enforcement, fire, and medical agencies, as well as our local community, for their unwavering support while our department mourns the loss of a family member.

We have heavy hearts with the loss of Officer McDaniel, thank you for keeping his family and the Post Falls Police Department in your thoughts and prayers. We couldn't imagine a better community to be in.

Please keep Officer McDaniel's fiancé and children in your thoughts and prayers as they try to cope with the loss of their loved one.

In a statement, Post Falls Mayor Ron Jacobson said: "We are proud of the time that Officer McDaniel gave serving our citizens and fellow colleagues at the City of Post Falls. There are no words that can make this loss easter to bear for Officer McDaniel's family and colleagues.

"As a city, we moum Officer McDaniel's death deeply and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues."
