KSP Locate Kidnapping Victim during Traffic Stop on Interstate 75 in Madison County, Kentucky, Arrest Driver from Cleveland, Ohio and Passenger of Newland, North Carolina

RICHMOND, KY (October 31, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting that KSP Post 7, Richmond was notified of a nationwide alert just before 7:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, October 31st, 2023 of a possible abduction in Wayne County, Ohio.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol contacted the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, advising of a cell phone ping on I-75 in Lexington, KY, headed south en route to Tennessee.

A KSP Trooper observed a vehicle traveling on I-75 South in Madison County around the 95-mile marker, possibly related to the abduction, and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The victim was located safe in the vehicle.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Anthony C. Grinnel, 29 years-old, from Cleveland, OH. Mr. Grinnel was a suspect in the possible abduction in Ohio and was taken into custody for questioning.

Anthony Grinnel was later charged with:

  • Unlawful Imprisonment 1st degree

This individual was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

A passenger, William L. Tate, 27 years-old, from Newland, North Carolina, was also arrested.

William Tate was charged with:

  • Possession of a defaced firearm

This individual was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
