Indictment of a Sheriff's Deputy and His Wife during LSO Investigation in Laurel County, Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Based on a Laurel County Sheriff's Office investigation, a former employee of the sheriff’s office has been terminated and both he and his wife have been indicted on multiple criminal counts by a Laurel County Grand Jury.

A former LSO Deputy Sheriff, Josh Velasco was terminated in connection to alleged theft allegations which apparently involved his wife Bethany Camille Velasco. Both were indicted on multiple criminal counts.

Joshua Velasco age 29 of London has been charged with:

  • Four counts of complicity to commit theft by deception value of $1000 or more but less than $10,000 on each count

Also charged with one count of:

  • Complicity to commit theft by deception $500 or more but less than $1000

Bethany Camille Velasco age 27 of London has been charged with:

  • Four counts of theft by deception value of $1000 or more but less than $10,000 on each count

Also charged with one count of

  • Theft by deception $500 or more but less than $1000

The indictments were the result of a sheriff's office investigation into an alleged theft.

After the sheriff’s office became aware of the allegations, a criminal investigation was initiated and as a result the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office terminated Joshua Velasco.

Both individuals appeared in Laurel Circuit Court on the indictments on Friday, November 17, 2023 and were released pending posting a bond of $2500 each.

Their next court date is scheduled for Monday, November 27, 2023 in Laurel Circuit Court.

Former LSO Deputy Josh Velasco graduated from the DOCJT Academy in Richmond, Kentucky on Thursday, January 26th, 2023.
