Arrest on Main Street in London, Kentucky for Illegal Possession of a Legend Drug and a Firearm

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Zach Allen along with London city police officer Jared Hale arrested Matthew Allen age 39 of London on Thursday night November 30, 2023 at approximately 9:54 PM.

The arrest occurred on S. Main St. in London. The arrest resulted after Deputy Allen was dispatched to a verbal dispute which was occurring off Waterworks Road approximately 1 mile west of London.

Upon arrival at the scene an investigation was conducted and it was learned that allegedly Matthew Allen was a convicted felon and had left the residence with a firearm.

Not long afterwards, London City Police Officer Jared Hale conducted a traffic stop in London on a vehicle occupied and driven by Matthew Allen.

During the traffic stop and resulting investigation, Matthew Allen was determined to have been in possession of a firearm and was determined to be a convicted felon.

In addition, he was found in illegal possession of a legend drug.

Matthew Allen was charged with:

  • Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
  • Illegal possession of a legend drug

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Other officers assisting on the original complaint and on the traffic stop investigation included, for Laurel County Sheriff's office: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler, shift Sgt. Travis Napier, and Deputy Austyn Weddle. Assisting for London city police were: Officer Mikey Ashurst and shift Sgt. John Inman.
