Felony Drug Arrest on U.S. HWY 64 after Clay and Cherokee County, NC began Combining Resources in Combatting Drug Trafficking

HAYESVILLE, NC - The Clay County NC Sheriff's Office reported that on Thursday, that earlier in this month Clay and Cherokee County Officers were working a joint operation in Clay County.

Over the past several months, Officers from both North Carolina counties have been combining resources in combatting drug trafficking between the two jurisdictions.

At 8:23 PM on Thursday December 7, 2023, Clay County Investigator Nick Queen saw a black Nissan traveling west on U.S. HWY 64 west near Hayesville.

Investigator Queen recognized the driver as Shalees Marie Greenlee, 31 years of age from Murphy, and knew that she had outstanding warrants from Cherokee County, NC and Towns County, GA.

Greenlee was stopped near the Dollar General Store in Hayesville.

Clay County Sgt. Tyler Faggard and Sgt. Steven Smith as well as Investigators from Cherokee County who assisted with this traffic stop.

A search of the car yielded several used and uncapped syringes and a small plastic baggy containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for Fentanyl.

Shalees Marie Greenlee was arrested for:

  • Outstanding arrest warrants

Additionally, Greenlee was charged with:

  • Felony Possession of Fentanyl

Greenlee was held without bond.
