Spotsylvania, Virginia Man Dead after Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County, Maryland

ROCKVILLE, MD – Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Monday morning in Montgomery County.

The pedestrian is identified as Caesar Adigwe Jr., 36, of Spotsylvania, Virginia. He was transported by ambulance to Suburban Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of a Nissan involved in the crash, identified as Aaliyah Brown, 22, of Clarksburg, Maryland remained on the scene.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, January 1, 2024, MSP troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack responded to the area of northbound Interstate 270 prior to Old Georgetown Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, Adigwe was pulled over on the shoulder, attempting to put gas in his vehicle when he was struck by the Nissan.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team are leading the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the Crash Team will submit their findings to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, who will decide whether charges should be filed in this case.

 I-270 was briefly closed for the crash investigation. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and the Montgomery County Fire Department assisted with road detours. The investigation is active and ongoing.
