Sheriff's Office Continuing to Receive Complaints Regarding a Phone Scam in Laurel County, Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that the Sheriff's Office is continuing to receive complaints regarding a phone scam in Laurel County where the caller is identifying himself as a Sheriffs Captain, a Sheriff's Major or a Detective.

LSO logo Blackand Gold 200The "scam" caller is advising citizens to make a payment using Bitcoin regarding not reporting for jury duty.

The scammer(s) has also spoofed the Laurel County Sheriff's Office phone number, so it's possible that the Sheriff's Office number may be displayed as the caller on the potential victim's phone.

They may also represent themselves as London City Police.

This is a scam to steal money from unsuspecting citizens.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office will never call citizens on the telephone demanding money regarding a case, an outstanding warrant or jury duty.
