DUI ARREST: Police in London, KY Fearing Medical Emergency Break Window to Gain Access to Slumped Over Driver

LONDON, KY - London PD is reporting that on Friday, January 12, 2024, at approximately 2:56 P.M., Officer Dylan Messer arrested Robert D. Sharp, age 43, of London, KY.

Officer Messer was dispatched to a vehicle on the KY-30 Bypass where the operator, was passed out inside the vehicle.

Upon arrival, Officer Messer located the vehicle at the intersection of KY-30 and Hal Rogers Parkway and found the operator slumped over.

Officers attempted numerous times to wake the driver and found that all the windows were rolled up and locked. Fearing a medical emergency, officers broke a window to gain access to the driver.

Officers located a tall Bud Light can and noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver.

The Officers were eventually able to wake the driver, identified as Robert D. Sharp, age 43, of London, KY, and after a brief struggle, were able to get him out of the vehicle.

Due to Sharp's level of intoxication, Standard Field Sobriety Tests were not performed for his safety, and he was placed under arrest.

Robert Sharp was charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle U/Influence of Alcohol - 1st Offense
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage Container, and other minor traffic violations

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
