SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO KIDNAP A CHILD IN WHITLEY COUNTY, KENTUCKY

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The Williamsburg Police Department is reporting that: On Monday, January 15, 2024, a fight in progress was reported to WC E-911 at a local business, along U.S. Highway 25W, in the southern part of Williamsburg.

Upon arrival, WPD officers determined a fight occurred between three males and one female.

As the investigation continued, officers learned a nine-year-old male was approached by an unacquainted adult male who allegedly tried to kidnap the child.

When the child’s parents confronted the male, a fight ensued, and he eventually ran off on foot.

Steven L. Lynch, 28, was identified as the suspect. Lynch was located by WPD officers on Savoy Clear Creek Road a few minutes later.

Lynch and another adult male received minor injuries from the altercation and the child was unharmed.

Steven Lynch was charged with:

  • Attempted Kidnapping-Minor

This individual was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center and according to JailTracker is being held on a $500,000 CASH bond with an appearance in Williamsburg District Court set for Monday, January 22, 2024, at 9:00 AM.
