Drug Task Force Early Morning Arrests with Meth, Guns and Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Laurel County, Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root and London City Police Chief Chuck Johnson announce that: On Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 12:43 A.M., members of the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force arrested three (3) subjects in a stolen vehicle with drugs and guns.

Officers were on routine patrol on KY HWY 490, three miles north of London when they encountered a white Kia Soul in the parking lot of a business on KY HWY 490.  An investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen.

The three occupants of the Kia Soul were arrested and identified as: The driver, Mark Anthony Gavin age 32 of Chapel Road, East Bernstadt, KY, a passenger, Timothy Hampton age 34 of McWhorter Victory Road, London, KY and another passenger, Kayla Philpot age 31 of Parker Road, London, KY.

Kia contraband recovered

Officers recovered in excess of 2 ounces of Methamphetamine, along with 2 firearms, and cash.

The driver, Mark Anthony Gavin was charged with:

  • Receiving Stolen Property over $10,000
  • Theft of a motor Vehicle Registration Plate
  • Possession of Handgun by a Convicted Felon
  • Trafficking 1st Degree Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree
  • Prescription Drug not in a Proper Container
  • Driving on a suspended License.

A passenger, Timothy Hampton was charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance 1st Methamphetamine

A passenger, Kayla Philpot was charged with:

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of Marijuana

The arrested individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
