Kentucky Attorney General Announces Louisville Shooting Indictment

FRANKFORT, KY– Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Thursday, February 15, 2024, that action by the Attorney General's Special Prosecutions Unit resulted in the indictment of Toree Deneal Sims, Jr., 24, of Louisville for a nonfatal shooting with a deadly weapon.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, a Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Sims on:

  • One count of Assault First Degree (Class B Felony)

According to the indictment, Sims unlawfully caused serious physical injury to the victim by shooting him with a handgun.

The Louisville Metro Police Department's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit investigated the case. Assistant Attorney General Amanda Morgan presented the case before the Jefferson County Grand Jury on behalf of the Commonwealth.

The charges in an indictment are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
