FELON WITH GUN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON SCHEDULED FOR CIRCUIT COURT IN WHITLEY COUNTY, KY FOR RELATED STATE CHARGES

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The Williamsburg Police Department reports that: Matthew W. Thomas, 33, was recently sentenced to 114 months in federal prison on firearm related charges.

An investigation by Williamsburg Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) found that Thomas, who had prior violent felony convictions, possessed a loaded stolen 9mm Stoeger handgun at a local park in Williamsburg in May of 2021.

Matthew W. Thomas was officially sentenced by U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom on January 09, 2024, in federal court in London, KY.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Pierce Nesbitt.

The investigation was conducted by WPD Officer Dorman Patrick Jr, ATF Task Force Officer G. Taylor, and Senior Special Agent T. Tremaine.

Thomas is scheduled to appear in Whitley Circuit Court on February 27, 2024, for state charges related to this case.
