Congressman "Hal" Rogers' Statement on Sen. Mitch McConnell’s Decision to Step Down as Senate Republican Leader

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05), Dean of the House released the following statement after Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced he is stepping down as the longest serving Senate Leader in U.S. history.

“Kentucky has a storied history of extraordinary leadership, and my good friend Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has added a wealth of victories to that legacy as a champion for our Commonwealth and this great nation.

"He is the longest serving Senate Leader in U.S. history because he has been a trusted, strategic bridge builder across party lines, forging a way through economic challenges, strengthening our national defense with stalwart wisdom, and preserving conservative values – specifically in our judicial system - that are deeply treasured by the American people.

"His decision to pave the way for the next Senate Republican Leader is proof that he always has the long game in mind.

"We have enjoyed a longtime partnership in public service at the federal level, joining forces from our perspective House and Senate sides to protect vital programs and secure critical funds for our people back home.

"I’m grateful that his service is not done yet, and I am confident that his work for the people of Kentucky will not waiver.”
