MOUNT STERLING, KY – Saint Joseph Mount Sterling has awarded more than $35,000 in grant funding to the DuBois Community Center and the Gateway Regional Arts Center to improve the well-being and health equity of the Montgomery County area. The funding will be used for the 2024 calendar year.

Funding will improve the well-being and health equity of the Montgomery County area.
DuBois Community Center was awarded $15,300 to support its physical and mental health screenings for community members, focusing on minority and low-income populations.
“DuBois has had a long commitment to the physical and mental health of our community. Our Community Garden stresses the importance of knowing how our food is grown and how to choose healthy meals. Our health fairs have encouraged residents to get regular testing and what to look out for in warning signs,” said Tauna Jones, president, DuBois Community Center. “DuBois is so thankful for the chance to offer more programming and assistance to those in need. This is what true community is and helping our neighbors is what we always strive to do.”
Gateway Regional Arts Center was awarded $19,999 for its creative workshops that focus on healthy eating, physical activity and addiction recovery.

Research indicates that the arts, creativity, and cultural activity are critical to a healthy community, and that participation in the arts can have profound effects on physical and mental health outcomes,” said Jordan Campbell, executive director, Gateway Regional Arts Center. “Thanks to our partners at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, we look forward to reaching more people through free arts activities who are otherwise sedentary, lack a social group, and those who are marginalized due to geographic and mobility factors. The impact of these grant dollars will be felt in the lives of those who need joy, creativity, and connection the most in our community."
Across Kentucky, CHI Saint Joseph Health awarded more than $355,000 through the grant program, which was open to nonprofit organizations that address the following priorities – substance use disorders, mental health and mental disorders, and weight status, physical activity and nutrition – through projects planned for the next calendar year. The priorities were identified in Saint Joseph Mount Sterling’s most recent community health needs assessment, which is conducted every three years to help the hospitals and community partners identify and address priority health and social needs faced by residents and the region.
This opportunity was part of the CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement Grants program. CHI Saint Joseph Health and Saint Joseph Mount Sterling are part of CommonSpirit Health, created in 2019 when Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health came together to create a national health system.
