REYNOLDSBURG, OHIO MAN FAILS TO YIELD FOR TRAFFIC STOP ON I-75, BRANDISHES GUN AND LEADS KSP TROOPERS ON HIGH SPEED PURSUIT SOUTH FROM RICHMOND TO LAUREL COUNTY

RICHMOND, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting that on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, just before 10:30 a.m., a Trooper with the Kentucky State Police, Central Kentucky Interdiction Team, observed a 2018 Black Range Rover traveling on I-75 South near the 87-mile marker in Madison County with no registration plate.

The Trooper activated his emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle failed to yield, brandished a firearm outside of the vehicle at the Troopers, and continued traveling on I-75 South, passing multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed.

The operator, later identified as Samuel H. Young, 42, of Reynoldsburg, OH, stopped the vehicle at the 39-mile marker south in Laurel County and was taken into custody and transported to the Laurel County Detention Center.

Samuel H. Young was charged with:

  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 2nd degree- Police Officer
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
  • Numerous other traffic violations.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police.
