FIVE-YEAR-OLD CHILD KILLED IN ATV ACCIDENT IN JACKSON COMMUNITY OF BREATHITT COUNTY, KENTUCKY NEAR HWY 397

JACKSON, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Is reporting that on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at approximately 11:41 A.M, KSP Post 13, Hazard, received a 911 call in reference to a single vehicle accident that occurred on KY-397 located in the Jackson community of Breathitt County.

KSP Troopers, along with medical personnel responded to the scene.

The initial investigation indicates that Makayla Marshall, 19, of Florence, was operating an ATV on private property when control of the vehicle was lost causing the passenger, a 5-year-old juvenile to be ejected from the vehicle.

The juvenile child was pronounced deceased on scene by the Breathitt County Coroner’s Office.

Marshall was transported to Kentucky River Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Helmets were in use at the time of the collision.

This incident remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Trooper Jarrett Fields.
