Deployed K-9 Alert During Investigation at Traffic Stop in Laurel County, KY Results in Discovery of Drugs and Paraphernalia

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Bobby Roberts arrested James Bailey age 46 of East Bernstadt on Friday evening April 5, 2024 at approximately 4:43 PM.

The arrest occurred on KY 490 approximately 6 miles north of London following a traffic stop conducted on a Chevrolet Suburban for failure to use a turn signal.

During the stop it was determined that the driver was operating a vehicle on a DUI suspended license.

An investigation was conducted on the driver who was determined to be under the influence.

In addition, during the stop K-9 London City Police Officer Dylan Messer deployed his K-9 that alerted to the vehicle resulting in the discovery of Gabapentin in an unlabeled bottle along with several glass pipes with residue.

James Bailey was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – second offense
  • Driving on a DUI suspended license – second offense
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Prescription controlled substances not in the proper container – first offense
  • Failure to signal
  • Failure to surrender a suspended or revoked CCDW license.

This individual was lodged in County Correctional Center.
