Multiple Weapons & Body Armor Located by Police in Laurel Co. Ky. During Execution of Search Warrant on Tom Cat Trail Double Murder Suspect's Vehicle

LONDON, KY (September 16, 2020) - The Laurel County Sheriff's Office is reporting that: As the investigation into the double homicide continues, on Wednesday afternoon Sept. 16th  Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Deputy Taylor McDaniel, Lieut. Chris Edwards, and Maj. Chuck Johnson executed a search warrant on the suspect vehicle, a 2015 white colored Ford Taurus that had been impounded upon Joseph Benge’s arrest in Mayfield Kentucky. Officers there recovered a handgun in the passenger compartment with the accused.

During the execution of the search warrant by Laurel County Sheriff's investigators the following items were found including:

  • Two shotguns
  • A .22 caliber rifle
  • A handgun
  • Body armor

Photos of search being conducted on the accused vehicle (which was a reported stolen car) are attached to this report.

Investigation is continuing by the lead investigator Laurel Sheriff's Detective Taylor McDaniel.

Also assisting on the execution of the search warrant were for Laurel Sheriff's office: Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Lieut. Chris Edwards, Detective Taylor McDaniel -lead investigator, Detective Richard Dalrymple, Capt. Robbie Grimes, Detective Bryon Lawson, Detective Robert Reed, and Detective Brad Mitchell.
