Upcoming FREE Programs for Clay County, Kentucky from the Cooperative Extension Service

MANCHESTER, KY (July 27, 2021) - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for August, 2021.

August 1st-7th is National Farmers Market Week! To celebrate and recognize how much markets bring to their to communities, youth will have the opportunity to participate in the 4-H Poster Contest.

The deadline to enter is August 6th. All posters must be dropped off at the Clay County Extension Office from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

Divisions:

  • Cloverbuds (Age 5-8)
  • Juniors (Age 9-13)
  • Seniors (14-18)

Rules:

  • Poster board is preferred (8x11 paper will work)
  • Agriculture related
  • Handwritten or drawn
  • No copyrighted items
  • Include a statement describing the importance of farmers markets

4-H Art Project Club: Print Making - This club will focus on art projects throughout the year! If you like to get creative, this is the club for you! We will meet on August 9th at 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. FREE & open to youth ages 8-18.

Each month, 4-H will offer grab & go bags focusing on a variety of different topics. The month of August we will focus on preparation for back to school. Youth will receive a bag of goodies and information! Bags are limited, you must call 598-2789 to register by August 9th. Bags will be available for pick-up August 16-20th from 8-4pm at the Clay County Extension Office. FREE & open to all youth ages 8-18.

Kokedama will be August 10th at 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  Want to try a new method of having houseplants or hanging plants?  Come, make a Kokedama with us.  All supplies will be furnished. Yes, you will have to look it up, but you will have so much fun making it.  FREE & open to the public. Please call 598-2789 to register.

Plate It Up will be on August 12th at 1:30 pm in-person at the Clay County Extension Office & via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Join us as we prepare a Plate It Up recipe using vegetables or fruits that can be grown in Kentucky gardens. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be sampling food.  FREE & open to the public. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register.

Cooking by the Calendar will be August 19th at 1:30 pm by Facebook Live and in person at the Clay County Extension Office.  Lora will be preparing August’s recipe from the 2021 Food and Nutrition Calendar.  If you haven’t picked up your copy, there will be some on the table in our office entrance vestibule.  There will be no food sampling due to COVID restrictions.  FREE & open to the public. Our next Rabbit Club meeting will be August 19th at the Clay County Extension Office at 4:00 pm. Please call the Clay County Extension Office at 598-2789 to register! You do not have to own a rabbit to attend. FREE & open to all youth ages 8-18.

Come and learn a new skill as we create your very own lip balm! The class will be taught by Amy Garrison. You must call to register by August 18th. The class will be held August 24th at 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. FREE & open to all youth ages 8-18.

Join us as we have our first 4-H Teen Club meeting of the year. This club is open to middle and high school students. Leadership, community service opportunities, games and much more will take place! Remember to invite a friend! We will meet August 31st at 4:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. You must call to register at 598-2789. FREE & open to all youth in middle school & high school.
