Portland Police Bureau reports Firearm Seizures, Shootings in 2 day Period

PORTLAND, OR - On Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 3:33 P.M. PPB reported that Portland Police Officers had seized 11 firearms during the past 48 hours.

These firearms were all seized during separate incidents, under a wide range of circumstances.

The number of firearms seized is not abnormal, and represents the typical number of firearm seizures occurring in the city.

To date (Thursday, September 30, 2021), the Portland Police Bureau has recovered 900 firearms in 2021, despite lacking available officers to engage in proactive police work.

With three months left, this exceeds the number of firearms seized in 2020.

** Shootings **

Since 4:35 P.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2021, 4 people have been shot across 7 different shootings, 1 fatally.

On September 29, 2021, at 4:35 P.M., there was a shooting in the area of Northeast Jessup and Northeast Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Officers located a male gunshot victim who sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Case #21-272144.

On September 29, 2021, at 7:52 P.M., there was a shooting at Southeast 74th and Southeast Harold Street. Witnesses reported seeing vehicles exchanging gunfire. One of the vehicles was subsequently involved in a traffic crash, and was recovered and processed by investigators. Officers located evidence of gunfire and established three separate crime scenes. Case #21-272317.

On September 29, 2021, at 9:37 P.M., a shooting resulting in homicide occurred in the area of Northeast 60th Avenue and Northeast Davis Street. Case #21-272393. This is the 65th homicide of the year, and the 49th homicide involving firearms.

On September 30, 2021, at 12:20 A.M. Officers were dispatched to the area of Southeast 79th Avenue and Southeast Franklin Street after numerous community members reported hearing gunfire. An unoccupied vehicle was located which was hit multiple times. There were no known injuries. Case #21-272498.

On September 30, 2021, at 12:23 A.M., there was a shooting reported in the 11500 block of Northeast Yacht Harbor Drive. Officers located a crime scene and a male suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Officers also found numerous casings and bullet strikes to an apartment building. Case #21-272500.

On September 30, 2021, at 2:38 A.M., shots were reported by multiple callers in the area of Southeast 127th Avenue and East Burnside Street. Officers found multiple casings. A short time later a male suffering from a gunshot wound arrived by private vehicle to an area hospital. Officers were able to determine that the victim had sustained a serious but non-life threatening wound as a result of this incident. Case #21-272566.

On September 30, 2021, at 8:30 A.M., numerous callers reported hearing shots fired in the area of Dawson Park. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles exchanging gunfire in the area of North Stanton Street and North Williams Avenue. Officers investigated and found no one with injuries. Case #21-272702.

These shootings are being actively investigated by the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST). Witnesses or individuals with information are encouraged to email and reference the corresponding case number.
