LSO Participates in Youth Empowerment Conference at Northern Kentucky University

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Special Deputy Elizabeth Sparks attended Murray State University’s 2022 Youth Empowerment Conference as a guest speaker/trainer at Northern Kentucky University on Friday, June 24, 2022 in Covington, Kentucky.

The conference, hosted in partnership with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, featured workshops, speakers, a resource fair, and recreation for youth in foster care aged 16-21 and their caregivers.

Deputy Sparks' workshop focused on basic self defense to enhance youth’s safety skills.

Deputy Sparks participated in this workshop at no cost to Laurel County taxpayers, volunteering her time. Her daughter Maggie accompanied her, and assisted in defensive demonstrations.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root stated that it was a privilege for his department to be asked to participate in this worthwhile training.
