FREE Programs in October 2022 for Clay County, Kentucky from the Cooperative Extension Service

MANCHESTER, KY (October 3, 2022) - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for October, 2022.

Disaster Preparation for Family and Farm will be on October 6th at 10 AM and 6PM at the Clay County Extension Office. (Zoom upon request)

Join us for our next 4-H Cooking Club that will be held Monday, October 10th at 4:00pm at the Clay County Extension Office. We will be making apple pie bites, which will be delicious for the holidays! Free! Youth ages 8-18 are welcome to attend. You must call 598-2789 to register by October 5th.

Maple Syrup Farm Tour

The Kentucky Maple Syrup Association and UK Cooperative Extension are partnering on a series of tours of Kentucky maple syrup operations this fall. One of these tours will be hosted by local producer Jimmie Sizemore at his farm on Buzzard (591 Sarvis Branch Rd, Manchester, KY) on October 11th from 3-6PM. This free event will include a tour of Jimmie’s operation, a presentation about funding assistance for new syrup producers, an open Q & A session, and a catered meal. Space is limited. We will be Cooking Through the Calendar on October 12th at 1:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office! "Apple Spinach Salad" is the recipe for this month. Call us at 598-2789 to sign up and get a free 2022 recipe calendar at the end of the class!

October 14th is our day for Holiday Ideas! Stop by the Clay County Extension Office at 1:00 pm to pick up a book full of different inexpensive DIY holiday decor. We will have samples of each item available for everybody to look at and will do one of them together! Call us at 598-2789 to sign up if you want to participate in the DIY activity. The 2022 Holiday Idea books will be available to pick up at the Extension Office any time.

4-H Art Club

If you like crafts, then this is the club for you! Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 18th at 5PM at the Clay County Extension Office. FREE & open to all youth ages 8-18. If younger, a parent must be present. You must call 598-2789 to register by October 14th.

Principles of Electric Fence Systems and Rotational Grazing will be October 18th at 5:30-7 PM at the Rawlings-Stinson Park in Manchester, KY.

  • Common electric fence issues and troubleshooting tips
  • Common tools for rotational grazing
  • Cost-effective ways to add electric fence to an existing barbed wire or woven wire fence

The Clay County Extension Office is hosting a 4-H Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest. Pumpkins must be carved or decorated by the child/teen. Carved pumpkins must only be carved, no decorations. Decorated pumpkins should not be carved. You can use paint or other décor. FREE & open to all Clay County youth ages 5-18. Drop off your pumpkins at the Clay County Extension Office on October 19th & 20th from 8AM – 4PM. Winners will be announced on October 21st. For more information, call 598-2789.

Clay County Beekeeper Meeting will be on October 20th from 6 – 7 PM at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds.

Join us for our 4-H Fall Painting Class on October 25th at 4:00PM. The class will be held at the Clay County EXCEL Building (beside McDonald’s). This free program is designed for youth and their parents, grandparents or guardians. We encourage parents to paint with your child! You must call 598-2789 to register by October 19th. Limited spots available. Sponsored by: Clay County Extension Office and Family Resource Youth Service Centers.

Come by on October 25th at 5:00 pm to the Clay County Extension Office for a Food Preservation class all about canning meat in the pressure canner! Call us at 598-2789 to sign up for this hands-on lesson.
