LONDON, KY - Acting Chief of Police Bobby Day is reporting on May 3rd, 2025 at approximately 4:53 pm Officer Gary Mehler arrested Robert M. Smith, age 38, of London, KY.
London PD Officers were dispatched to a residence on Village Street in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim and the suspect, later identified as Robert Smith.
Through the investigation, it was determined that during the altercation, Smith had pushed the victim into a chair and then placed his hands around the victim's throat, which restricted her breathing. The victim was able to get away, but Smith then obtained a firearm and pointed it at the victim’s head while threatening to kill her. This information was collaborated on scene by a witness and Smith was placed under arrest.
EMS was requested to the scene to check on the victim, but she declined further treatment or to be transported to the hospital.
Robert Smith was charged with:
- Strangulation 1st Degree (Non-Domestic Violence)
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Assault 4th Degree (Minor Injury)
- Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

All arrests are preliminary investigations. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
