Sheriff John Root Locates, Arrests Fleeing Rockhold, KY Biker Hiding in Creek Bed in Laurel Co.

LONDON, KY - On Thursday, June 26, 2025 while patrolling East Laurel Road Sheriff John Root observed a motorcycle traveling on the highway with no license plate.

When Sheriff Root attempted to initiate a traffic stop the suspect, later identified as Robert T. Smith, age 33, of Rockhold KY, failed to yield and traveled approximately 3 miles down East Laurel Rd. before turning onto Jim Bruner Rd.

As Mr. Smith fled down Jim Bruner Rd. he drove through residents' yards and fields attempting to evade Sheriff Root before laying down the motorcycle and fleeing on foot through a creek bed. Sheriff John Root located Mr. Smith hiding in the creek bed and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Robert Smith was charged with:

  • FLEEING OR EVADING POLICE, 1ST DEGREE
  • NO REGISTRATION RECEIPT
  • NO REGISTRATION PLATES
  • FAILURE TO REGISTER TRANSFER OF MOTOR VEHICLE
  • FAILURE OF OWNER TO MAINTAIN REQUIRED INS/SEC, 1ST OFF
  • FAILURE TO PRODUCE INSURANCE CARD

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
