Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office conducted a roundup of drug traffickers in Laurel County early Monday morning (11-25-12 at 8:00 A.M.).

One team of sheriff’s deputies, armed with arrest warrants based on undercover investigations conducted by Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Jason Back, and Deputy James Sizemore arrested 7 suspects charging a variety of Illegal Drug Trafficking and Possession Drugs offenses regarding "Operation Drug Free Thanksgiving", and lodged them in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

The arrests were the result of a 3 month undercover investigation conducted by the sheriff's office.

Those suspects arrested are identified as:

  • Roger Vaughn age 55 of Old Richmond Road, East Bernstadt charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance,1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
  • Curtis Vaughn age 57 of Old Crab Orchard Road, Pittsburg charged with: Trafficking in Controlled Substance,1st Degree, 1st Offense (Opiates)
  • Freddie C. Vaughn age 64 of Four Oaks Road, East Bernstadt charged with: Failure To Appear in Court on Possession Of A Controlled Substance 1st Offense, 2nd Degree
  • Billy C. Hurley Jr, age 49 of Highway 3094, East Bernstadt charged with: Trafficking in Controlled Substance,1st Degree, 2nd Offense (Methamphetamine)
  • Michael R. Wood age 36 of Highway 3094, East Bernstadt charged with: A warrant of Arrest for Receiving Stolen Property
  • David Honeycutt age 53 of Barbourville Road, London charged with: Trafficking in Controlled Substance,1st Degree, 1st Offense (Opiates)
  • Cindy Gibson age 39 of Mt Zion Road, East Bernstadt  charged with: Trafficking in Controlled Substance,2nd Degree, 1st Offense(Schedule 3 drug)

Assisting in the arrests today were: Sheriff John Root, Capt Rodney Van Zant, Lt. Chuck Johnson, Sgt E.R. Rudder, Sgt. Phil Barnard, Deputy Josh Scott, Deputy James Sizemore, and Detective Jason Back.

Investigations into illegal drug activities will continue by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, the “War on Drugs” will be continuing in Laurel County.
