GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park will be the site for the 2014 Western Kentucky Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics.
The plunge will be on Feb. 15, 2014.
Participants seek sponsors to help raise money for the Special Olympics and get to jump into Kentucky Lake. The event, sponsored by WPSD-TV and radio station WKYQ in Paducah, will be at the courtesy dock near the park’s convention center. Awards will be given for best costumes, largest groups and top fundraisers.
The plunge starts at 11:30 a.m. with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Visit kentuckyplunge.com to register and for details. There will also be a 5K race at 9 a.m.
Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, which sits near the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, features a lodge, cottages, marina, campground, golf course, convention center and full-service restaurant. The Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge that was scheduled for this past Saturday was cancelled due a combination of extreme wind, cold temperatures, ice on the beach and in the water, as well as approaching snow, caused the cancellation of all activities related to Plungefest.
