(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – The Kentucky State Police joined forces with members of the 6-State Trooper Project for a high-visibility enforcement effort focused on crash-causing violations from February 21, at 12:01 a.m. through February 23, at 11:59 p.m. Troopers targeted seat belt, aggressive driving and impaired driving violations along the Interstate 75 corridor. The initiative included members of the Michigan State Police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Kentucky State Police.
KSP enforcement efforts on the I-75 corridor
During the effort, officers in all three states issued 2,086 speed citations, 332 seat belt violations and arrested 86 impaired drivers. Troopers in Kentucky were responsible for 457 speed citations, 112 seat belt violations and 39 impaired driving arrests.
KSP spokesman Sgt. Michael Webb says the partnerships forged through the 6-State Trooper Project have helped to increase coordinated enforcement efforts among the states.
“Collaboration with other agencies is vital to saving lives on our roadways,” says Webb. “When we share resources and strategically place units in targeted corridors, the effort becomes a force multiplier that an individual agency would not be able to provide alone.”
The 6-State Trooper Project includes the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Kentucky State Police, Indiana State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, West Virginia State Police and the Michigan State Police.
This multi-state, law enforcement partnership provides combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
