KSP Arrests Florida Man For Cargo Theft

(Lexington, Ky.)— On March 11th, the Kentucky State Police Vehicle Investigations Branch was alerted to a cargo theft that occurred in Indiana. A truck and trailer carrying assorted Hewlett Packard computer equipment was taken from a Pilot Truck Stop.

Several agencies, including KSP, Louisville Metro Police, the FBI and the National Insurance Crime Bureau, began to attempt to locate the stolen tractor and trailer that was believed to be enroute to Kentucky.

KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement units were able to locate the suspect vehicle when it bypassed the scales on Interstate 75 South in Northern Kentucky.

At 1 a.m. on March 12th, Eduardo Hernandez, 50, of Hialeah Fla., was arrested following a traffic stop at the 166 mile marker on I-75 South. Hernandez was charged with two counts of Receiving Stolen Property Over $10,000 and one count of Running a Scale Installation. He was lodged in the Grant County Detention Center.

The stolen cargo, valued at approximately $2 million, was recovered as well as the stolen trailer and a 2006 Peterbilt truck.

The investigation is continuing.
