Urgent! Help needed to stop workers’ comp increase!

Frankfort Inside Out - Kentucky Chamber of Commerce

The Kentucky Chamber is hard at work at the Capitol on your behalf, but we need you to help us with an extra push on four items below. Please choose at least one issue below and leave your legislators an urgent message.  Time is running out. Legislators need to hear from you today!

Stop Workers’ Compensation Premium Increases

Some lawmakers in Frankfort are trying to sneak through changes to workers’ compensation that will mean big premium increases for employers by doubling the pay of lawyers in the workers’ comp system and giving their labor union friends a huge victory by adding more costs to the carefully crafted benefit scale. What’s worse is the fact that they’ve attached this secret premium increase to a bill designed to help church pastors! We need your urgent help to stop this backdoor tax increase on employers. Call 1-800-372-7181 today and urge your legislators to VOTE NO ON HOUSE BILL 206! You may also send them an email by clicking here.

Support Road Funding and Jobs

Transportation investments in our cities and towns are key to Kentucky’s long-term economic competitiveness. A well-performing transportation network supports and grows jobs, helps consumers and helps families. Unfortunately, problems with the way the current motor fuels tax is calculated means Kentucky stands to lose roughly $250 million in the current state budget alone and may lose over $600 million overall if the General Assembly fails to act this session. Time is running out for the current session of the General Assembly and a loss of this magnitude means lost jobs if the legislature fails to act. Call your legislators today at 1-800-372-7181 and tell them to prevent job losses and STABILIZE THE ROAD FUND THIS SESSION or click here to send legislative leaders an email.

Support the P3 Jobs Bill

Public-private partnerships (P3s) mean more private sector jobs with fewer tax dollars expended. The Kentucky Chamber is pushing legislation to create more business opportunities with HB 443 to do what all of our surrounding states have already done – authorize public-private partnerships. HB 443 passed the House in an overwhelming fashion last week. Leave a message for your Senator at 1-800-372-7181 and urge them to VOTE YES ON HB 443 or send an email using our action alert system.

Support Local Investments

The Chamber supports the ability of local voters to approve investments in their communities that can create local infrastructure and, most importantly, more jobs! House Bill 1, a constitutional amendment which gives local communities that option, passed the House and awaits a vote in the Senate. Currently 37 other states allow a local option sales tax to fund projects. The Kentucky Chamber supports the LIFT initiative and we ask you to leave a message for your Senator today at 1-800-372-7181 and ask them to VOTE YES ON HOUSE BILL 1Send an email by clicking here.
