Gunfire exchange in Laurel County results in two people airlifted to UK

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Detective Josh Scott along with Detective Charlie Loomis are investigating a shooting involving two victims which occurred at a residence on Hazel Patch Road approximately 9 miles north of London on Monday night March 2, 2015 at approximately 8:10 P.M.

Two victims were identified:

A female resident of the home – Pamela Newcomb age 47 of Hazel Patch Road, East Bernstadt, KY – Apparently has a gunshot wound to the stomach and was airlifted by PHI helicopter to UK Med Center with serious injuries.

A male victim identified as Ricky Eddie Eversole - age and address not determined yet, sought medical attention later Monday night at Somerset Hospital apparently with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was airlifted to UK Med Center for treatment of serious injuries.

Apparently, according to investigators, an altercation occurred between the female home owner and a male subject who may have been one of two subjects outside the residence, and gunfire was exchanged leaving 2 persons shot.

The circumstances of the altercation remain under investigation, which is continuing.

Laurel County Deputies assisting at the scene included: Maj. Ronnie Van Zant, Capt. Chuck Johnson, Sgt. Robbie Grimes, Deputy Tommy Houston, and Deputy Kyle Gray.

Also assisting was: KSP Trooper Jason Mc Cowan, KSP/CVE Officer Landry Collett, and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Officers.

Kentucky State police assisted with the victim at Somerset Hospital.

Ambulance Inc of Laurel County assisted at the Laurel County scene.

Investigation is continuing by Laurel County Sheriff's Detective Josh Scott and Detective Charlie Loomis.
