KSP Charges Franklin Co. Man With Child Pornography and Drug Offenses

(Frankfort, Ky.)— On March 18, 2015, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch, assisted by the KSP Cannabis Suppression Branch and KSP Post-12 Frankfort, arrested Russell A. Burchett, 37, for charges related to child pornography and drug offenses.

Burchett was arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after discovering the suspect sharing images of child sexual exploitation online.

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant at Burchett’s residence during the evening hours of March 18, 2015. Equipment used to facilitate the crime was seized and taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination. The investigation is ongoing.

Burchett is currently charged with 20 counts of possession and five counts of distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor. In addition, while executing the search warrant, troopers discovered a sophisticated indoor marijuana grow operation. The Cannabis Suppression Branch was notified and processed the scene, dismantling the grow.

Burchett was also charged with cultivating marijuana (five plants or more), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Burchett was lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center.
