Murder investigation and arrest Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Detective Josh Scott is conducting a murder investigation after deputies were dispatched by Laurel 911 Dispatch Center to a complaint of a shooting which occurred 2 miles north of London at a residence on Boardwalk Circle early Sunday morning March 22, 2015 at approximately 4:22 A.M.

When Deputy Tyler Morris and Deputy Shawn Jackson arrived on the scene, they found a male victim that had been shot once in the chest. The victim was airlifted by PHI helicopter to UK med Center, where he later was pronounced deceased.

The victim is identified as:

Clifford Lee Humfleet, Jr. age 31 of Boardwalk Circle, London. Detective Josh Scott conducted an investigation and learned that apparently the victim and his cousin had gotten into an argument in the living room area that resulted in a physical altercation where one shot was fired from a 9 mm pistol striking the victim in the chest.

Alcohol is believed to be involved.

Detective Scott arrested Jonathan Ryan Humfleet age 23 of Boardwalk Circle charging him with allegedly shooting the victim.

Also arrested was:

River Humfleet age 18 also of Boardwalk Circle – Charged with facilitation to commit murder - he was taken to UK Med Center due to an apparent pre-exiting medical condition.

Jonathan Humfleet is lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. This investigation will be presented to the Laurel County Grand Jury for their consideration.

Assisting at the scene were Laurel Sheriff's Lieut. Greg Poynter Sgt. Josh Gaylor, Deputy Kevin Berry and Bailiff Jack Caudill, and CSO Robert Reed.

Also assisting was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and East Bernstadt Fire Dept.
