(LONDON, KY.) – On Tuesday, April 07, 2015, at approximately 5:30 PM, Troopers from Post 11 were investigating a methamphetamine lab complaint at a residence on KY HWY 92 East in Whitley County.
While conducting the investigation at the residence, a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro pulled in the driveway. When the operator later identified as Robert Mattie, 39, of Williamsburg observed the officers at the residence he backed out of the driveway and fled eastbound at a high rate of speed. KSP SGT Tony Dingess activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but Mattie refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle continued traveling eastbound for approximately one (1) mile when a backpack containing methamphetamine precursors was tossed from the vehicle, but was later recovered by officers. Mattie then slowed the vehicle to a stop and was arrested without incident.
Mattie was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center and charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree and numerous traffic offenses.
As Mattie was backing out of the driveway, a passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Andrew Stines, 44, of Williamsburg, jumped from the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. His whereabouts are unknown at this time. Kentucky State Police are asking anyone with any information on Stines’ whereabouts are asked to contact Post 11 at 606-878-6622 or 1-800-222-5555.
KSP SGT Tony Dingess continues the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11 and the Williamsburg Police Department.
