Fiery Collision Injures Three - Harlan County

(Tremont, KY) – Three people were injured in a fiery collision Thursday evening on US Highway 119 in the Tremont community of Harlan County.

The call was received by Kentucky State Police Post 10 shortly after 5:00 p.m. Trooper First Class Kevin Miller responded to the crash.

Following the investigation by Tfc. Miller, it was determined that a 1997 Ford Explorer operated by Amber Hickey, 20, of Baxter, was traveling down Tremont Hill. A 2014 Nissan Frontier operated by Lewis Brock, 40, of Isom, was traveling north on US Highway 119.

Ms. Hickey failed to stop at the bottom of U.S. 119, crossed over to the northbound lane and struck the the front driver’s side of the Nissan. The truck spun around and came to rest, facing south, at which time it burst into flames.

Wallins Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and extinquished the blaze.

Brock, Hickey and a passenger in the Ford, Elbony Fields, 35, of Harlan were all transported to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital by Harlan EMS where their conditions are unknown at the time of this release.

Ms. Hickey was charged with DUI and license to be in possession.

Investigation into the crash continues by Tfc. Miller. He was assisted on scene by Trooper Rodney Sturgill and Constable Robert Haywood.
