Possible phone scam - Laurel County, Ky.

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting a possible phone scam circulating in the Laurel County area.

A local businessman reported to the Sheriff's office that he had received a phone call from someone allegedly representing a company that stated they were conducting a fund raising event for a local high school to sell magnets with the school logo on it.

When this businessman called the local high school to verify that they were doing the fund raising, the high school told the area businessman that they were not conducting a fund raising event like this.

Area business persons and citizens should be aware that these phone calls may be related to a phone scam attempting to get credit card information or money sent for a non-existent fund raising event.

Sgt. ER Rudder is the investigating officer for the Laurel County Sheriff's office.
