One Critical Following Collision - Knox County

(Bimble, KY) – Kentucky State Police, Post 10 in Harlan is investigating a two-vehicle collision which occurred on US Highway 25E in the Bimble community of Knox County. The crash, which closed US 25E for nearly two hours, was located near Knox Central High School.  The call was reported Tuesday around 3:40 P.M.

According to the preliminary investigation by KSP Collision Reconstructionist, Master Trooper Michael H. Cornett, a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Brenda K. Laws, 54, of Barbourville, was traveling southbound on U S 25E. Ms. Laws struck the rear of a 2013 International tractor and trailer operated by James W. Sharp, 48, of Gray, Ky.

Ms. Laws was removed from her vehicle and airlifted from the scene to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where she is in critical condition. A passenger in the Laws’ vehicle, Tracy Laws, was taken to Knox General Hospital where we she was later airlifted to another facility.

Mr. Sharp was also treated for minor injuries and released.

Investigation into this incident is continuing by Master Trooper Cornett. He was assisted on scene by troopers Kelley Farris, Chad Gregory, Frank Russell, Jason Partin and Jay Sowders.

Also assisting were officers from KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch and Barbourville Police Department. Barbourville City Fire Department assisted in traffic control while the scene was being processed
